Oliver Twist follows the trails and tribulations of a young orphan boy who escapes the workhouse only to fall into the clutches of a sinister and manipulative pickpocket on the streets of London. David Lean's non - musical version of the Dicken's novel has emotional and visual power. Two great performances, Alec Guinness as Fagin and Robert Newton as Sikes, provides this adaptation with a dark Victorian tone.
